Madeira Embroidery is part of Madeira's history and culture. Each stich has its secrets, art and technique. It is with the repeated passage of the needle and thread through fine fabrics, and with the help of patient and passionate hands, that timeless works of art are born. Bordal teaches how to embroider in its presencial workshops. Experienced embroiderers pass on their knowledge and art to anyone who wants to learn to embroider. Throughout the process, the client is accompanied by a guide who speaks several languages. 1st phase - Drawing - The explanation of how the drawing is made is given. At this stage, each customer is given a bag with the respective kit (handkerchief with the "filitro" already made, threads, needle and an image of the finished piece). 2nd phase - 'Picote' and Stamping - the customer experiences how to 'picote' and stamps the design on the handkerchief. 3rd phase - Embroidering - customers learn and embroider part of the scarf - 1 stitch each so they can then finish the embroidery by themselves. This phase will be accompanied, in addition to the guide, by one or two embroiderers. 4th phase - Wash + Iron + Cut - An explanation of how these processes are done is given. At the end, customers receive the Participation Certificate and take the perforated design, a perforation pin and cushion, the handkerchief, the needle and the threads.

Mir hat der Workshop sehr gut gefallen. Aus eigener Erfahrung kann Frau die Mühe und Präzision sehen die in den einzelnen decken steckt. Vielen Dank Marion Klemme
My daughter and I had an amazing and unique experience at Bordal. We were well looked after, everything explained to us in English and we felt very welcome. We loved the embroidery workshop - the ladies showing us their craft were patient and kind. We have learned new embroidery techniques (which we will put into practice) and we have a new appreciation of what it takes to create such beautiful embroidery. Booking the experience itself was easy and we were kept well informed of where to meet and what we should expect.
