The Rabaçal Valley is one of the most beautiful places in the island to hike in. Here you can find the 25 Fountains levada walk. The 25 Fountains levada walk in Madeira is one of the most popular levada walks in the island. Our experience starts at the Paúl da Serra plateau where we descend towards the Rabaçal Guesthouse and where we can start our hike. The path reveals a spectacular landscape and along the way it is possible to see a wide variety of endemic species of flora and fauna typical of this place. One of the first stops is the Risco waterfall, falling vertically into the green nature surrounding it. The view here is breathtaking. The path continues towards the 25 fountains lagoon. A great variety of plant species can be observed along this way and we’re always accompanied by the sound of water in the levada. The great apotheosis of this hike is the 25 Fountains lagoon, surrounded by numerous waterfalls and gigantic local ferns. The lagoon is made out of pristine waters originating in Paúl da Serra. The most brave among you can venture into the cold water for a refreshing dip if you want! During this hike you will find some stairs that can be demanding, so a fair physical condition is recommended.

Very enjoyable walk, some great views despite the rain. Definitely recommend this walk, will potentially do again if i return to Madeira and the weather forecast is better.
An excellent walk with fabulous views. Our guide Alex was very helpful knowledgeable and friendly. Parts of the walk are very demanding. The only downside was the number of people encountered making the narrow levada walkways more challenging, and the 25 Fountains difficult to appreciate due to crowds congregated there. We were meant to stop for a 20 minute picnic but it wasn’t possible. But overall the experience was worthwhile for the fauna flora and views.
