Urzal Hard Madeira Trail Tour

The starting point of this Madeira Trail Tour track it’s in Fajã do Penedo, Boaventura a parish on the North coast of Madeira Island. It begins with a smooth climb to find the Levada dos Tornos, taking the inverse direction of water flow. After contouring some hills in the Lombo do Urzal the levada crosses a long but fabulous uphill that ascends to Boca das Torrinhas, a bifurcation with the path between Pico Ruivo and the Encumeada. Here we follow towards Pico Ruivo traversing part of the Central mountain massif and enter in a trail in the left that leads us in the direction of Pico Canário. After a slight climb, we continue into technical trails, passing through Pico do Milhafre, and climbing after to Pico Canário, where we can have a unique perspective of the Pico Ruivo. From here the route is always between a descending trail through centenary Heathers (Erica arborea), until we find a dirt road, taking it in a few tens of meters leaving it by left in a very technical trail ending in the first dirt road to the beginning point.
