We will start this tour in the east part of the island with a visit to Camacha, a town known for the wicker basket industry, where you will have a chance to visit the wickerwork factory and see artisans build traditional wicker baskets.
Proceeding this short visit, we will go to Portela viewpoint, passing by Santo da Serra, known for the beautiful rural landscape and famous golf court, a chosen location for yearly international golf tournaments. We cross the village of Porto da Cruz, an area known for producing part of the wine in the region, following the direction of the city of Santana where you can see the famous houses with thatched roofs.
After having lunch in Faial, we will drive up the mountains in the direction of Ribeiro Frio, where we will visit the trout nursery and take a walk along the Levada dos Balcões.
We will then pass by a special place to try the famous typical alcoholic beverage called poncha, made of sugarcane brandy from Madeira, lemon juice and honey.
Continuing up the mountain, we will reach one of the highest peaks of Madeira, with 1810 m, called Pico do Arieiro. We will then stop in Monte (where it is optional to go downhill in basket cars, not included) on our way back to Funchal.
