Referta to Castelejo Levada Walk has its beginning in Referta and ends in Castelejo. This is an easy and pleasant walk where you have the chance to see, in between the cultivated terraces, the vineyard responsible for the production of the famous american wine. You will have the opportunity to see the famous Eagle Rock (Penha d’Águia).

Sergio was an excellent guide and provided interesting commentary. This levada path is relatively easy and flat but narrow as expected. Nonetheless, an amazing experience for those looking for a simple levada to start with.
The walk took us safely along a levada path for about 1.5 hours. There were some quite steep drops, but where these were next to the path there was a barrier. On the day of our walk, the weather was poor with regular rain, which although was usually light, did give rise to puddles and wet mud that was difficult to avoid. The views were impressive and our guide gave excellent commentary on the plants and shrubs we came across. However, note if you are at the tail end of the group, it may be impossible to benefit from all of the commentary.
Please ensure you come prepared with suitable walking shoes or boots and a warm coat, especially if temperatures are low in the mountains. For full-day walks, please bring a picnic and water with you as they will not be provided. For your own safety, provider may change, postpone or cancel the walks with short notice. This will only happen due to adverse weather conditions, landsliding or other reasons beyond or control.
