This is one of the biggest religious festivals in Madeira, the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte is all decorated in honor of the patron saint of Funchal, The Nossa Senhora do Monte. On the night of the 14th of August, families and friends spend time together, drink, eat and dance, similar to other traditional festivities in Madeira. On the following day, the 15th, first happens a mass and then a big procession takes place. In this procession people take the opportunity to pay their promises.
