Today's walk leads you to a contrast of the evergreen flower island. The wide open spaces of Ponta de São Lourenço peninsula can be green, hard and wet or dry and bare depending on the season. This eastern tip of the island is unprotected exposed to strong winds, so the ordinary fauna and flora of Madeira has no way to unfold. In good weather you have the possibility of swimming in the sea.

Great hiking trip on the São Lourenço Peninsula. The hike was very well guided, full of humor, and the guide strongly supported the group during challenging moments. They took excellent care of everyone, offered useful advice, and kept the group safe and motivated throughout. The route passed through stunning landscapes with open terrain and broad, beautiful views that made the whole experience unforgettable.
This is an excellent "out and back" walk, not too long and not too strenuous but with fantastic views. Our guide was great, giving us lots of information and took us to a local bar to try poncha on the way home. There is also a cafe/bar at the end of the peninsula for refreshments (and toilet!). The walk can be very muddy underfoot, so be prepared, and you may get a chance to swim at the far point before turning back (we did not try this).
We recommend to wear comfortable and practical walking shoes and a bottle of water, as well as a waterproof jacket as the weather can change quickly. For full-day walks, bring a picnic and snacks for lunch.
