The São Jorge Watermill is located in the parish of São Jorge, Santana. This is the last water mill still in operation on Madeira Island. Here we can see how the population used the driving force of the water for their livelihood. This mill is the site of Achadinha, Sao Jorge, and still works today. With the age of 300 years, the mill has recently been restored and is fed by the waters of the Levada do Rei. Even today the population uses the water mill to grind wheat, corn, barley and rye, as it was before.
