PR21 Caminho do Norte Hiking Trail has 3.2 km and a duration of 1:30 hours. This route starts at Boca da Encumeada and ends in Ribeira Grande (São Vicente), following the traces of an old footpath used to connect the south and north of the island. In the early part of this journey we can observe the lush Laurissilva forest, classified as World Natural Heritage under the aegis of UNESCO and member of the Natura 2000 network. Arrived at Ribeira Grande be sure to enjoy the wicker culture. It is from the osier plant branches, which extracts the wicker serving of raw material in the confection of the most varied traditional utilities baskets, furniture and construction of the famous toboggans Mount.
