The Selvagens Islands Nature Reserve is located about 180 miles from Madeira. The Wild are made up of two groups of small islands, the Bit Selvagem and Little Selvagem.
Nature Reserve and Hayes was established in 1971, is one of the oldest nature reserves in Portugal.
In Wild Small and Ilhéu de Fora they were never introduced herbivores, so that the ninety species that represent the floral heritage of the Wild, ten are endemic.
These islands are also considered as a “bird sanctuary” because the conditions present for nesting seabirds.
