PR6 25 Fountains Risco Levada Walk

The PR6 25 Fountains Risco Levada Walk takes about 4.6 km, lasting 3 hours, starts down to the Rabaçal. From here you can continue along the taken to find the spectacular waterfall of the risk and / or continue to the fantastic 25 fountains lagoon.

Both trails start from the regional road (E.R.110) in Paul da Serra, down to the Rabaçal shelter house. The trails diverge along two parallel levadas located on different levels.
The Levada of 25 Fontes and Risk collect the waters of the tributaries of Ribeira Grande and will feed the Calheta hydroelectric power station. The construction of this Levada began in 1835 but only in 1855 ran the first water.

The altitude of 1000m, the trail PR 6.1 Risco Levada Walk leads to an impressive waterfall, which falls horizontally creating a risk in the rock.
If you go down to PR 6 Levada of 25 Fontes, you can visit the lagoon of the 25 fountains, formed by the waters that descend from the Paul da Serra plateau and appearing behind the wall that way, which can count more than 25 sources.

A lower altitude where there are the taken from 25 Fountains Levada and the Risco Levada are found species of Laurissilva forest of Madeira classified as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO and is part of the European network of comunity – importance of sites Natura 2000. On this area lives and nests here the trocaz pigeon (Columba trocaz trocaz), endemic (exclusive) of Madeira.
This hike ends where it began, in Rabaçal site (ER 110).
