Porto Moniz is a charming little town that is located on the north western tip of Madeira. This place was isolated from the rest of the island, and the town only survived as a fishing port by specialising in whaling.
The main highlight of this place is for sure the natural swimming pools, that in 2018, CNN elected it as one of the 52 best beaches in the world.
This swimming pool was formed over thousands of years, through the cooling of volcanic lava, and it has crystal clear water, with fish easily visible. The landscape surrounding the pools are unique due to a panoramic view that the swimmer has over the sea coast and the rocks.
The seawater lava pools are naturally filled by the ocean’s high tide, and you can still paddling in.
It also offers a children's pool, playground and access for the disabled.
This beach also has a car park, changing rooms and changing rooms with lockers to store personal belongings, a snack bar open in the summer season, first aid, sun loungers and umbrellas for hire.
