The Madeira Military Museum is located in the São Lourenço Palace in Funchal. This museum displays various collections of weapons from the eighteenth century to the present day, as well as the evolution of the construction of the St. Lawrence fortress, where the museum is located. It is also lavishly illustrated with representative diverse iconography of the history of the Portuguese Army in Madeira. The museum aims to draw attention to the important role played by Madeira in the Portuguese military history.
