The Funchal Natural History Museum is located in the São Pedro Palace and displays a huge collection of fauna and flora from Madeira. It also has a library and on the ground floor a small saltwater aquarium with live specimens. This museum was opened on October 5, 1933 and is therefore the oldest in operation on Madeira Island.
