Founded by charter of King Sebastian on August 20, 1569, the Jesuit College scored, over the centuries, the life of the whole island of Madeira.
For over 400 years had several tenants from the Jesuits who built the historic site to propagate the Christian faith, through the English invaders and the military who have settled here for more than a century, until the present day as the Madeira University headquarters.
